New yaTimer 2.5 Feature: Ask for Comment

Disclaimer (again): version 2.5 of yaTimer, my time tracking software, wasn’t released yet, the feature I talk about here may change until the final release, yaTimer 2.5 will be a free upgrade for all existing customers.

This is an often requested feature, and one that I objected to for a long time, when you start or stop a task (your choice) a small balloon will pop up and ask you to enter a comment for the newly created timing event.

If you ignore the message it will fade out and disappear after a few seconds.

The reason that I objected to this feature is that I strongly believe that starting and stopping a timer has to be a one click operation – it has to be fast and easy – but I understand how this feature can be very useful (I’ll actually be using it myself) and I hope that with the automatic disappearance this is still an easy one click operation when you don’t need to enter a comment.

Update: I forgot to write that this feature is optional and disabled by default, it can be turned on from the settings window.

I agree with you that stopping and starting a timer should be a one click operation and therefore I wouldn't like this feature. Maybe you can make this feature configurable in the settings.

The fact that it will disappear if ignored keeps the start/stop as a one-click operation if desired, while adding the optional ability to capture more information easily. And that the whole feature is optional gives even more control. I would certainly use it!

Much appreciated, if I remember correctly it was pretty much the only more important thing I was missing when deciding to buy yaTimer.

It would be nice if that was optional on a project basis, not globally, as usually there are some projects where you need comments and others where you don't, pop-ups might become disturbing after some time if you only need this for 1 of 20 projects for example.
